Playing Philosophy
- AAU basketball is for players to get playing time in a competitive basketball setting. All Players that get assigned to a team will play at least 1/3 of the playing time. In many cases players will get at least 50 percent of the playing time in each game.
- Man to man is a very important defense in the off season and will be stressed 90 percent of the time with Athletics Teams. By emphasizing this it will give players a better chance of developing their man to man skills for the next level. Sitting in Zones in AAU is a waste of time and shows an emphasis on winning over player development. It also hides a players weakness on defense instead of challenging them to improve.
- Running plays is ok but an emphasis will be on teaching players to move without the basketball rather than standing around. Motion offensive principles will be emphasized to give players an opportunity to work on their overall game.
- With the exception of high school age groups, there is more an emphasis on playing for development rather than winning games. Qualifying for regionals, nationals, etc. is not the focus.
